Bento and Craft

March 09, 2011

The Iditarod is currently underway here in Alaska. It started March 5 and the dogs and mushers are currently making their way through the great state. If you are not familiar with the Iditarod it is a sled dog race that runs annually starting in Anchorage and ending in Nome, Alaska. Over 1150 miles are covered by the mushers and their dogs through grueling temperatures, darkness, ice, snow, treacherous mountains and all the rest that is the beautiful state of Alaska. The race can take anywhere between 10 to 17 days. I would love to raise sled dogs but it is a lot of work...I often joke with Chris and tell him that Penelope is going to be the youngest girl to win the Iditarod. Hey it could happen! Currently the youngest female racing is 21 so Penelope better get to training! :) To honor the furry pooch's and their brave owners I decided to make a doggy bento for Penelope today.

Blueberry and cherry Craisins, strawberries, cheese letters, doggy animal crackers and a turkey, lettuce and tomato doggy sandwich. We also made a doggy craft. No it's not edible, unless you have four legs. :)

To make the doggy craft you will need 1 large dog biscuit, 1 small dog biscuit, pink felt cut into the shape of a tongue, brown felt cut into doggy ears, wiggly craft eyes and glue. Just glue it all together and make sure Fido doesn't get a hold of it.
