We took the kids to John's Incredible Pizza Co. today. It's a larger version of Chuck E. Cheese with a dancing bear instead of a mouse. We ate the pizza buffet and Chris had some of the Spicy Peanut Butter Pizza, whaaaat?! It was a pepperoni and cheese pizza with peanut butter instead of pizza sauce. *shaking my head in confusion* Penelope had some Macaroni and Cheese pizza, that's right macaroni and cheese on pizza! Talk about a kid's dream meal. She looked at the slice I put in front of here and said "Woooooww". I normally dread going to these types of places, too many people, too loud, too hot, but the kids had a blast so it was worth being uncomfortable.
Tomorrow is national Sense of Smell Day, did you even know we had such a thing? This gave me an idea to do a little sense of smell experiment with Penelope today. I put 6 different scents on 6 cotton balls; Harajuku Love scent, Vinegar, Cinnamon, Coffee, Lemon and Vanilla then blindfolded her and had her say which ones smelled good and which ones were "eeewww yuck". They were all good, even the vinegar. :) Her favorite was the coffee. She really enjoyed this experiment so we will definitely do this again with different scents next time around. I had Regan try to guess each scent while blindfolded and he guessed everything right but unlike Penelope he cringed when he smelled the vinegar. :)
Top Row: Red/Strawberries, Orange/Oranges, Yellow/Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie (not really yellow, I know)
Bottom Row: Green/Grapes, Blue/Blue Jelly Bellys, Purple/Pizza (couldn't find anything purple so went for pizza instead!)
I got the idea from No Time for Flash Cards to start doing a letter of the week with Penelope. She just turned 2 in February and already knows her ABC's and can count to 12. I have been trying to come up with more crafts and activities to do with her now that she is able and starting to be more vocal. Speaking of being more vocal for the last couple of days she has been saying funny a lot. It started when we picked up Regan and she started saying "Rain hunny" and laughing. She thinks everything is funny now. "Mom hunny", "Dad hunny", "Wewe hunny". It's too cute, she is such a happy little thing. Anyway last week we started on our letter of the week, letter A. I made a letter cut out and let her color it and we learned a song and did some letter tracing. The second row of the letter tracing for the uppercase and lowercase letters she did on her own, pretty good. We tried to find things that started with the letter A in the few magazines I was willing to cut up. ;) but all we found was an avocado. All week I would point out things that started with the letter A and we read "My a Book" every night. This site has great printouts to use by the way. We are going to start our next letter today. We would have already started but I had to get up this morning and go to the DMV to get my Alaska license switched to California. I know I procrastinated a bit on this. After being there for 2 hours and passing the written test...barely, I was told I would have to have an eye exam before they would give me a license. UGH! I don't have much vision in my left eye due to Amblyopia, it has been this way all my life and I have gotten pretty use to it and have never had a problem getting a license before. If they don't let me get a drivers license I'm going to ask for a seeing eye dog or better yet a seeing eye horse!
Can you guess where this picture was taken? That's Right the surprise I mentioned briefly in a previous post was Disneyland. We picked up Regan at the airport and headed straight there. He was so surprised and bummed that he couldn't call anyone to let them know where he was because all his friends were at school. Hehe... Anyway, we had a blast! It's Disneyland how could you not! Penelope was so good and she made it through Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion without getting scared. It's funny because I had to convince Chris to take us even with the free tickets we got and he ended up having the most fun out of all of us. He was disappointed we didn't get to see everything and even talked about going back for two days next time. I didn't get very many pictures and unfortunately none of Penelope with Mickey and Minnie because she was asleep when we finally ran into them at 11:30pm. Oh well we have next time!
I have been slacking on the bento's lately, poor Penelope. Here was her lunch today... Sliced Bananas, Macaroni Salad, Veggie Chips and a String Cheese.
No meal plan this week, Chris has been working nights and his vacation starts on Wednesday . We are going to pick up Regan at the LA airport on Thursday and then we have a surprise for the kids. More about that later...
Did everyone have a good weekend? We did! Yesterday we got up and gave Penelope the Easter basket I had made her because we thought Chris was going to have to work today. She enjoyed eating jellybeans for breakfast. ;) We went out for an Easter lunch and then Chris got a phone call saying he didn't have to work on Easter after all. Yay! So today we received an early wake up call and headed over to our friends for Easter breakfast, yummy breakfast enchiladas! Then the kids hunted for Easter eggs and Penelope had a blast. Made a quick stop at the store before heading home and Chris bought me this. I had been wanting a beach cruiser for awhile now. I am so excited it even has a place in the back for my basket! After I put Penelope down for a nap I rode my new bike for a little bit around the block. Wheee! I have not ridden in years! Chris was afraid I was going to fall and break my arm, but I didn't and it was so much fun! To top it all off Chris surprised me with this beautiful orchid. The old orchid plant he bought me when we moved in is still alive by the way, can't believe it. I wonder if it will bloom again... Hope you all had a wonderful Easter as well!
