Penelope's last day of dance class until next fall was last week. They had a little celebration complete with cookies and juice and each little ballerina received a pink carnation. Here are some photos of her final dance performance.
We are going to be trading in her ballet slippers for some cleats this summer. Fun Fun!!
My mom caught this Sandhill Crane taking a leisurely stroll down our street this evening.
These birdies fly up from the lower 48 when it starts to warm up and enjoy beautiful Homer nature and then head back south for the winter.
Oh and FYI, this photo was taken at 9pm. We are only getting a few hours of darkness right now if you want to call it that...
I finally have enough time to post some photos of our super fun Alaskan vacation that my parents, Penelope, and I had a couple of days ago. The parents love watching those Alaska nature tour and nature shows and one of the things they have been wanting to do is ride the Alaska Railroad so I surprised them with a trip! Thursday we drove to Anchorage, did some shopping, had some yummy Sushi and relaxed at the Sheraton . Friday we woke up early in the morning to start our grand adventure. We took a 4 hour tour on the Alaska Railroad to Seward, Alaska. The ride there was a blast! The scenery was beautiful and we got to see some wildlife during the ride. Penelope loves trains so this was really exciting for her. Here are a few pics of the train ride...

Choo Choo!!  Once we got to Seward we enjoyed walking along the main street and old town, it is such a cute little town. We also really enjoyed visiting the Alaska Sealife Center.  Seward port, there was a cruise ship that had come in from China. I talked to one of the passengers and she said they had been out at sea for the last 30 days, wow!  Being a goofball     After our long train ride we slept well in our hotel and woke up the next morning and headed out to do some shopping before the drive home. On the way we home we stopped at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, too cool!      We also saw buffalo, caribou, elk, musk ox and moose but the bears were definitely the highlight. Have I mentioned I am obsessed with bears. I gotta do one of those fly in bear viewing trips next! Even though we had a fabulous vacation and tons of fun we missed you Chris and wish you could have been there with us. Let's do Denali next! |

My parents are visiting from San Diego so Friday we took the ferry across the bay to Seldovia for the first time. The weather was really nice on Friday for the trip, sunny and warm, since then it has been overcast and rainy. We couldn't have gone on a more perfect day.
Seldovia is a quaint town across the bay from Homer. The only way to get there is by boat or float plane. The population is a little over 300 which makes it a very quiet place to visit. We walked the small town, had lunch at a local restaurant, played at the park and looked for seashells on the beach. It was very nice and relaxing. Here are some photo's of our visit...

Here is Penelope's bento she took to school the other day.
The hearts and initials were made with a turkey and cheese sandwich, underneath are veggie chips and in the bottom tier their is apple sauce and dark chocolate covered edamame. Penelope loves edamame so I was excited to find these.
This morning I heard and felt a large thud on the back wall of our house followed by what sounded like heavy footsteps on the roof. When I looked out the back window this is what I found...
He was enjoying a morning snack of bunny.
Later this little birdie snuck in and ran off with part of the big birdie's breakfast. Penelope and I enjoyed watching yet another wildlife encounter in our backyard.

There is moose everywhere too! Here is one that snuck up on Chris as he was working on his truck.
And the bears are officially awake. Our neighbor scared one away from our driveway the other day, I am still hoping to get a photo!
Here is a pic of Penelope's lunch today. She had a giraffe sandwich with turkey and cheese, cheese puffs, raspberries and blueberries.
She kept insisting the giraffe was a horse, hmmm what does it look like to you?
